goodbye 2010.
well, it looks like twenty ten is coming to a close and for some reason i feel the need to reflect on it a moment: i wouldn’t say that 2010 was necessarily all i had hoped it would be, but at the end of the day i have nothing to really complain about. this wasn’t exactly the year to get ahead like i thought it would be, but it was definitely the year to catch up. and for that i am...

today was the day...
of the dreaded fare hike. goodbye $89 a month. hello $104.  i should have bought my last $89 monthly pass last night at 11:59pm. now i’m contemplating never buying another monthly and instead only paying per swipe, in which case my futile attempt to “damn the man” will simultaneously cause my social life to be non-existent. a mere casualty of war.

New American Style →
American style is self-made. It’s borrowed. From your boyfriend, your ancestors, your favorite movie star. It’s a wool peacoat from the Army-Navy and the slinkiest stiletto heel….

a pompom wreath!!
I fiiiinally finished my pompom wreath (five days before Christmas…oops!) and I couldn’t be more proud of it!! Last winter I stumbled across this little do-it-yourself project on the Urban Outfitters blog: The Yokoo Soopa Pompom Christmas Wreath. I never got around to making it due to living at my mom’s house (which was already decorated rather festively) and working 24/7 (at...

the quiet american.
Pyle said, "I think I ought to put all my cards on the table. I'm not rich. But when my father dies I'll have about fifty thousand dollars. I'm in good health--I've got a medical certificate only two months old, and I can let her know my blood-group."
"I don't know how to translate that. What's it for?"
"Well, to make certain we can have children together."
"Is that how you make love in America--figures of income and blood-group?"

making pom-pom's.
i discovered that i’m not very good at making pom-pom’s (even though i’m trying to make a pom-pom Christmas wreath). they just don’t look very pretty when i make them. but then again i’m not really into pretty things, so i guess it all works out.

knitting project #2.
alas the winter is upon us, which means it’s time for scarves and hats and gloves of all sorts! i began feeling inspired earlier in the fall, so i made a wonderful navy blue knit scarf for my man to start the season off right (and to get my hands back in the knitting mood—see the scarf here). for my second project, i began a scarf for myself but was not feeling it at all. i had also...

thoughts at the end of the day.
i like to think that i had a really good childhood growing up. back in those days my parents were still together, and even though our little family lived on a tight budget, i always felt like i had everything i could ever need. all my memories of those days are full of happy nostalgia. and then i watch a movie like Where the Wild Things Are and all of the other thoughts and feelings i had as a...
